Top 12 Satchels for Spring

26 Mar 2014

Now that spring is upon us, pastel colours are making more of an appearance in my wardrobe. I have been after a small satchel for a while now, specifically a pastel one, and after hunting around the internet I have found a number that are perfect for spring.  I have my eye on a few, but they are all so pretty. If only I could buy them all!

Which is your favourite?

#BYOM with Not on the High Street

23 Mar 2014

Thursday evening I was lucky enough to attend an event hosted by Not On The High Street, my go to company for when I am looking for a special gift. The theme of the evening was celebrating mothers and womanhood, and therefore we all got to #BYOM (bring your own mum). My mum was delighted to be invited to her first event, and it was truly a very special evening to share with her.

Upon arrival at 5 Cavendish Square we were greeted by the lovely people at Not on the High Street and spoilt with copious amounts of champagne and canapés. Dotted around the room were various different props to celebrate being a mother, along with lots of Not on The High Street products. There was a wooden tree to hang a note to your pre-mum self, my mums being "Enjoy being a mum, they grow up too fast".  There was also a photo booth where I got to dress up with my mum, wearing hats, glasses and various other products - just like a young girl dressing up in her mums clothes!

The evening started with a very inspirational speech from Holly Tucker (the CEO and founder of Not on the High Street) about how her mother inspired and supported her to set up her own business. We were then entertained with a Vintage Perfume Experience by the lovely Odette Toilette, taking us through a sensory experience of perfumes of the past - a very unique experience indeed! This was followed by female comedian Shappi Khorsandi with her hilarious stories of motherhood.

#ItsAMumThing is such a beautiful and thoughtful campaign that encourages celebrating Mothers not just on Mothers day, but the whole year round. I love my mum and I am very close to her. She has always been there for me, even when I have made a bad decision. She is the most caring, thoughtful, beautiful person I know, who would drop everything for her children and grandchildren and I wouldn't change anything about her.

I want to thank Not on The High Street and Mumsnet for such a special evening and the opportunity to share it with my mum. So this Mothers day, do something special with your mum, let her know what she really means to you and cherish every minute with her.

Morning Skincare Routine

20 Mar 2014

I have finally found a morning skincare routine that I really like, it suits my skin really well and I have not had any problems with dry skin recently. Firstly, I use Garnier clean and fresh ultra gentle make up remover to remove any mascara, eyeliner or eye shadow. This product is a beaut, possibly one of the best and cheapest make up removers I have used! It is really effective at removing mascara and is so gentle and refreshing, I also love the fresh smell. Next, I use my Avene extremely gentle cleanser to clean my face. As the name suggests, this is a very gentle cleanser and it is not drying at all. It has a very pleasant faint scent and leaves my skin feeling lovely and soft. Lastly, I use the Clarins Daily Energizer wake up boost which is the most amazing toner I have used! This gel toner is so refreshing and helps to brighten and hydrate your skin. I actually look forward to using this in the morning as it makes me feel more awake!

Moving onto the moisturising products, first I apply my Monu eye cool gel which is another wake me up product, leaving my eyes feeling refreshed and awake. I then apply the Avene soothing hydrating serum* all over my face. This is the first serum I have consistently used and I can really see a difference. I use this both day and night and find it extremely hydrating, so much so that I don’t always have to use a moisturiser on top. It sinks in very quickly, allowing me to apply my moisturiser quite soon after and although it is quite pricey, it is often on offer (it is currently 25% off at Escentual!). Last but not least, I apply my YonKa pamplemousse moisturiser, which although states it is for normal to oily skin, I find it works well on my normal to dry skin. Once applied my skin feels soft and smooth, and I find it is nice and light for a day moisturiser. It has a lovely scent, my boyfriend always says I smell of lemons when I apply this.

So there is my daily morning skincare! What is your favourite product to use in the morning? I love using products that make me feel more awake.

Life Update (flats & spending ban)

17 Mar 2014

I have been finding it tough to blog recently, mainly due to lack of time! If you follow me on twitter you may know my boyfriend and I have been searching for our first flat to purchase since around October time. We had put in 4 offers on different flats, all over the asking price, and still didn't manage to get one...until now that is! I am pleased to say we have finally had an offer accepted on our first property :) Words cannot express how happy we are, I am so excited to finally be able to decorate our own place. Unfortunately this is only the beginning of what seems to be a long process, there is still so much to do! Therefore, most of my spare time has been spent dealing with mortgage brokers/solicitors/estate agents etc. This means over the next few months I may not be blogging so much, however I will try my best!!

So, onto my spending ban. I am now into month 3 (almost 4!) and it is definitely getting tough. It was my friends birthday last week so I did treat myself to a new playsuit for the evening (I justified this to myself because I didn't but a new outfit for my birthday night out - that's fair right!). Other than that I have been good! I have now paid off all my holidays and will need to pay for Glastonbury Festival next month (and most importantly - flat related items!!). I am going to continue my ban until the end of April, but I think after that I will relax the rules a little. I will still try and limit my spending but not so much - meaning new clothes are finally on the horizon!

So please do bear with me, I shall definitely still post regularly just not as often as usual :) If you are on a spending ban let me know how it is going!

Klorane Nettle Shampoo

12 Mar 2014

Firstly, this is my 200th post! I remember when I hit 100 posts and I couldn't believe I had posted so many time - it seems so long ago now! Any who, I don’t know about you, but I have a real love hate relationship with washing my hair. I obviously love having nice clean hair, but I hate the process of having to brush and dry my hair. My hair gets so tangled, even when using a tangle teezer, that I am sat there ripping brushing my hair for a good 10 minutes and then a further 10/15 minutes drying it. I therefore try and get away with washing my hair every three days, however on day two I can see signs of oiliness and by the third day my hair really begins to suffer.

Klorane Nettle Shampoo is a deep cleansing hypoallergenic shampoo that helps to battle oily hair by re-balancing the oil in your hair. It contains a key ingredient – scopoletine (which is the extract from nettle) which slows down the creation of sebum and regulates the production of it, therefore extending the time needed between washes. This is just what I need!

The packaging is nothing special but the shampoo itself more than makes up for this. It is a bright green colour and it has a very pleasant smell – quite herbal; refreshing and not overpowering. It has a very runny consistency, which unfortunately does not lather up very easily and I therefore end up using more than is probably necessary, but I am very happy with the results so this is not a massive issue.

Since I have introduced this shampoo into my hair routine I have been able to get away without using dry shampoo. On day two my hair still looks freshly washed and on day three I rarely need to use dry shampoo. It is not drying at all; my hair is still full of moisture and shine and I love the way it makes my hair look. Although the shampoo claims to help detangle your hair, I am afraid to say my hair was no less knotted than usual, which is a shame.

This is currently on offer at £4.50 (usually £6.00) which is a fab price! What do you use to make your clean hair last longer?

Uevo Design Cube Round Wax

7 Mar 2014

When it comes to hair wax, I am a complete novice, I tend to stick to what I know, and I don’t know hair wax! So when I was contacted to see if I would like to try out some hair wax from Uevo, a Japanese hair brand, I was a little unsure as I thought this is not something I would usually buy. Thankfully I gave it a chance as I am now a convert!

Chris from Hyde Park Hair Shop helped me choose a wax that would be best suited for my hair and requirements, and suggested the round wax (6/7) - a beautiful pink/gold pearlescent wax with medium hold that gives hair a naturally glossy finish. After blow drying my hair, I apply a small pea size to my fingers and stroke it through my hair to finish.

The packaging is very unique and eye catching - it reminds me of large lego pieces, you can even stack them on top of one another! It smells heavenly, it reminds me of that hairdressers smell – you know, when you go to the hairdressers your hair has a certain smell about it when you leave. I have been using this most days to help keep my hair in place and have been most impressed with the product. Not only does my hair stay in place, but it gives it a lovely glossy shine. I especially love to use the product when I have straightened my hair as it looks so smooth and sleek, putting any frizz at bay.

Currently, the only place you can purchase this hair wax from is from The Hyde Park Hair Shop, where they sell a range of Uevo products from hair wax to gloss for all hair types. Although in my opinion, £18.50 is a lot for hair wax, you do get a huge amount of product and I can see this lasting a very long time. If you need help in deciding which one will best suit your hair then I am sure The Hyde Park Hair will be more than happy to help you out!

What is your favourite hair product?

p.s yes that is hair wax in a Christmas tree! I took these pictures a while ago :)

My February in Pictures

4 Mar 2014

Regents Street // Competition win // Valentines day // Banana Oatmeal cookies // Winter walks // LW Event // Collection Spring Launch // Night in with Roo // Start of Detox tea // Chef à la Richard // Warm Toes // Bath time

I am going to do a “my month in pictures” post each month to make my blog that little more personal, so I hope you enjoy seeing what I have been up to! It will also give me a reason to instagram more as sometimes I neglect it a little! February was quite a busy month for me, it was my birthday, my friends birthday, Valentines day and my month to plan a mystery event (my friends and I take it in turns to plan a mystery event each month). I attended a few launch events, which was exciting to see what is coming out soon - very excited for spring/summer collections. I also experimented a little and baked some Banana Oatmeal cookies and they turned out to be a very tasty snack - I would recommend trying them out!

If you have instagram please do follow me and let me know so I can follow you back :)

What have you been up to this month?

Meet my March Advertisers

2 Mar 2014

Hello everybody, it is officially Spring and that makes me a very happy lady! The weather hasn't been too bad lately, we have even had some sun which has been so lovely. So yesterday I was a tourist in my own city – London. I went to the Natural History Museum, ventured around South Kensington and Camden and we finished the night at Fuertzabruta, an amazing Argentinian show.

Anywho, I recently decided to start advertising on my blog and this is my first month :) I have four lovely advertisers who will be sitting on the right hand side of my blog for this month, so do check them out! There are some fab blogs advertising with me, I have even managed to find some new blogs for myself to read! Here is a little information about each :)

Hi, I'm Paula and I blog over at Pretty Polly's Blog, a little place full of beauty, hair care and fashion. I started my blog in October 2012 and remember thinking how am I going to post every week? Now it's safe to say I don't have that worry and am proud to say in all sense of the word I truly am a beauty hoarding blogger! I love pink lipsticks, bows, purple nails and food from all over the globe, all of which feature in my little blog.

Now I'm in full swing I still strive for the perfect smokey eye and voluminous hair (even if it’s faked!) So stick with me as I blog about all the things I love.

Hope you can drop by
Paula xx

I'm Dani - a fashion, art & lifestyle blogger over at Heavyintheday. I'm a 17 year old art & design student in the North East of England, working towards getting into a University to study Fashion Illustration. I love fashion, art, beauty, music.. and flamingoes. I've been blogging a few months now and my main reason for blogging is to help spread inspiration for personal style, beauty and artwork as most of my favourite blogs do! My blog documents how my personal style develops, the places I go to, the things I try and how my artwork refines. I love individual blogs that show personality and that I can find inspiration from, and I hope my blog can do the same for at least one person out there.

Hi my names Jacquelyn and I hail from sunny Scotland. I've just finished a degree in mechanical engineering and begun my career as an engineer in formula one. It's a little bit of a male dominated environment so I love retreating to the beauty blogging community in the evenings. In the autumn last year I took the big step of starting my own little corner on the internet and the little scottish corner was born. Since then I have loved every minute of blogging, especially interacting with other like-minded people. I started reading blogs 4 or 5 years ago when I stumbled upon some gorgeous nail swatches and since then I have been addicted both to blogging and nail polish. My collection is 239 strong and still growing! I mainly write about beauty with a focus on nails, make-up and skin care, but I have thrown the odd lifestyle post in there too. I am so excited to have won this advertising space on Carissa's lovely blog, so big thanks to Carissa for supporting budding bloggers like me. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and I would love for you to leave me a comment.
Jacquelyn xx
