A visit to Kew Gardens

20 May 2014

I love spending time with my family, but with my dad being self-employed and working 6 or 7 days a week, my mum and I rarely get to spend much time with him. So when I was kindly invited to Kew Gardens, courtesy of Simply Health as part of their healthy ageing campaign, it was the perfect opportunity to drag him away from work and get out for the day. So on Sunday, the most beautiful day of the year, we headed to Kew Gardens.

I have never been to Kew Gardens and so I didn’t realise just how big it is. Walking around you would not know you were in London, it is 121 hectares of gardens and botanical glasshouses and really is just so beautiful and relaxing. We spent around four hours there and we got to see the majority of the park whilst getting some exercise, leaving some very tired legs at the end of the day! We had such a lovely day and I would definitely like to go back.

The healthy ageing campaign aims to encourage people to take their parents and grandparents out to help them get healthier. We are living longer than ever before and so by keeping active you are helping to slow the process of ageing in your body. We all know just how easy it is to slump in front of the TV and not do any exercise, so why not do something you love and get your parents/grandparents involved? Head to the zoo, go for a Sunday stroll or even go to some gym classes to get that heart pumping. Just remember that whatever your age, it is never too late to make positive changes in your life, and we as the younger generation should really encourage this :)

Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti

17 May 2014

The Revlon Colourburst Lip Butters (£5.99) are some of my favourite lip products to use. Tutti Frutti was the first in my collection, which I received in a beauty swap with another blogger in the US, and at first I was quite intimidated by the colour. I usually stick to quite safe colours and as you can see Tutti Fruitti is a bright orange with hints of coral, which can be built up to quite a bright lip colour. However, this has become my go to summer colour.

The lip butters contain hydrating mango, shea and coconut butter which help to boost lip moisture. They apply very smoothly, like butter, are very creamy and moisturising and have the same texture as a lip balm. They provide a sheer to medium colour with a shiny finish, which I love. When wearing Tutti Fruitti I like to apply this quite sheer, and built up the colour of an evening. It is very low maintenance; you can easily apply without the use of a mirror and lasts a good few hours at a time.

What is your favourite lip butter?

Evening Skincare Routine

14 May 2014

A few months ago I shared my morning skincare routine which is still going strong, however my evening skincare routine is slightly different. In the evening, I love nothing more than washing my face and feeling clean and refreshed, my current cleanser of choice is the No7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser. It is great at removing all my make-up, including eye make-up, and lightly exfoliates the skin leaving clear and radiant skin. Next up I use the Dermalogica Breakout Clearing all over Toner to remove any excess product and to help clear any breakouts I am having. This is a great multi-use product that can also be used on your body if there is anywhere that particularly suffers from breakouts.

On to moisturiser, I use the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream to start which is super hydrating and very light.  If my skin is in need of a pick me up I use the Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Serum*. It contains 4% glycolic acid which helps to retexture & resurface the skin's appearance, and a pore refining ingredient PoreAway, to help reduce the size of pores. The morning after my skin is more hydrated, more even tone and smoother. I pair this with the Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Rich which I absolutely love. I am a big fan of Avène and their skin care and cannot recommend it enough if you suffer from dry, sensitive skin. This is very hydrating and gets rid of dry patches by the morning.

Every now and then I use the Neals Yard Remedy Beauty Sleep Concentrate*, another brand which I cannot recommend enough - I have loved every product of theirs that I have used. The Beauty Sleep Concentrate is particularly nice to use when you are struggling to sleep as it contains a blend of aromatherapy essential oils renowned for their calming, relaxing properties – it smells amazing! Lastly, I have recently been using La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+]*. I have mixed feelings about this product, despite their being rave reviews. The past few times I have used it my skin has got a lot worse. Having read up about this it supposedly gets worse before it gets better, however it got to the point where I couldn’t use it anymore. I may give it one last try however.

So there is my daily evening skincare! What is your favourite product to use in the evening?

MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy

11 May 2014

I recently won a competition hosted by the lovely Livia, where I was lucky enough to win three MAC products - one being a MAC Eye Kohl in the colour of my choice. After taking a look at some swatches I decided on Teddy, a rich dark bronze with some subtle gold shimmer.

This is my first eye-liner from MAC and I am very impressed. Firstly, the application is heavenly. It is creamy yet firm and therefore applies very nicely, it does not tug at the skin and can be blended out really easily. Secondly, the colour. I am in love with this colour. It's warm tones really compliments blue eyes, especially when applied along the lower lash line,  It creates a much softer look to black eyeliner, which I can find sometimes looks a little harsh, and is great for creating a smokey smouldering look. It lasts all day on my lower lash line, and looks great paired with nude lips. I can see this being a permanent part of my make-up collection.

What do you think of Teddy?

Sophie Kinsella

6 May 2014

I have a bit of a soft spot for chick lits, one of my favourite authors being Sophie Kinsella. I have been a big fan of the Shopaholic series for a while now, but her other books are also a very enjoyable and easy read. I would highly recommend picking up one of her books if you haven't yet as you are quickly drawn into the story line making it hard to put down. I have yet to read the Madeline Wickham series so not sure if it is the same style as her other books, but it will be interesting to see what they are like!

Are you a fan of Sophie Kinsella? What are you currently reading?

Meet my May Advertisers

3 May 2014

Woop, it's a three day weekend, happy times! I don't have much planned this weekend which is quite nice as I have been very busy the past few weekends. I am hoping to get quite  a bit of blogging done - take lots of photos and also do some spring cleaning around the flat.  So my previous advertisers have now been on my blog for a month and it is now time to update you with my new advertisers! This month I have the lovely Helen, Beccalouise, Estelle and Emily sitting on my blog, so please do check them out!
Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it's unbelievable. Hi, my name is Helen and I love make up, hair, fashion, beauty, cooking, baking and crafts. Generally I love being a GIRL! My blog focuses on reviewing products I have been drawn to on my shopping hauls and focuses on the positives (I am a glass half full kind of girl). I like to try products from all areas of the market, top end to supermarket value…I look for quality and results. Of course I have my favourite brands which I swear by but I am always open to suggestions, trying new things and being converted to a new ‘must buy’. My passion for make-up and beauty is reflected in my blog and I have good product knowledge.

I'm beccalouise a 19 year old who doesn't have a clue about life and I hate making hard life decisions but while I try to figure all that out I have a little humble abode I call my blog where I write about all things beauty & fashion with little the bits inbetween over at wondercolourbehind a frostedwindow!
Hi guys, I'm Estelle, I blog over at Let Me Go xo and I live in the East Midlands. My blog is a mix of everything you could ever think of, beauty, fashion, lifestyle and sometimes even fitness. But I'm not very healthy, so not much of fitness! I like pastels, burgundy and over using the word cute. | |

La Carmella is a UK beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog. I typically write about cute, girly fashion and review beauty products. I enjoy japanese / korean fashion, reading, baking, playing on my 3ds, drinking tea and I adore everything Disney.

I hope you find some new favourites! Let me know if you do :)
