My Invisalign Journey: The Impressions

I recently changed the layout of my blog, I am really pleased with how it turned out so I would love to know what you think :) Anyway, onto Invisalign. A few weeks ago I had my impressions taken. If you don't know what impressions are, they are the molds that are used to make your aligners and therefore need to be as accurate and detailed as possible. I was not particulary looking forward to this part of the process, especially as I had googled what to expect, and I was met by horror stories of people gagging and it being really painful.

Firstly, the dentist took some photos of my teeth from different angles, using lip retractors to help get more detailed shots of my teeth and gums. Then I had the first set of molds taken. This first set were quick and pain free, the putty like texture is soft and therefore does not tug at your teeth. The second set are slightly more intense. Using the first mold, a neon gel is added, then the dentist holds the mold in your mouth, with quite some force, for 2-3 minutes. This does not hurt but I did find it slightly uncomfortable as there is some pressure on your teeth. The bit I was least looking forward to was them taking the mold out, but it really wasn't that bad. I worried that it would feel like my teeth are being pulled out, however it was quick and pain free and there were no nasty tastes.

Unfortunately the first set were not good enough so I had to go through this process again, but thankfully the second set were fine. All in all this process only took about 20 minutes and really was not as bad as I thought it would be, nor did I experience any gagging. These molds were then sent to the Invisalign lab in America, where they would build the Clincheck, a 3D simulation that shows your teeth moving over the treatment.

I have already seen my Clincheck video, which was very exciting, so I will share that with you guys in my next post. I have also had a few questions on the cost of invisalign so I will do a seperate post on that :)

  4. Invisalign CAN be as effective as traditional braces. In fact, there are situations when Invisalign is actually better than braces. Visit Invisalign Houston for more information.
