Blogger Events | Caudalie & Mii

24 Apr 2016

On Tuesday I attended the launch of the new Caudalie hydrating moisturisers and the limited edition grape water. The Vinosource range is powered by the grape, a rich source of hydration that contains soothing elements such as potassium and calcium. There are 4 moisturisers in the collection, one for each skin type. The Moisturising Sorbet is a gel like cream, perfect for sensitive skin, whereas the Moisturising Mattifying fluid helps to reduce excess sebum and is great for combination skin. The Moisture Recovery Cream is a light weight cream for dry skin and the Intense Moisture Rescue cream is a richer cream for very dry skin.

I am a big fan of Caudalie and so I look forward to trying these out - especially with my skin being so dehydrated at the moment. The moisturisers come in at £23 for 40ml and the grape water is £6 for 7ml. They are available now from Caudalie Boutiques and the Caudalie website.

Then on Wednesday I popped along to the Wonderful World of Mii event, a brand created by the founder of the infamous Jessica nail range. I hadn't heard of the brand before and so I was intrigued to learn more. Upon arrival I had my brows done using the statement brow kit in fair and was very impressed by the finish. My brows were much fuller, yet still very natural which is just how I like it. I then sampled the makeup. The products that stood out the most to me were the forever eye colour crayons, the mineral foundation and the conceal & contour duo. The eye crayons remind me of the By Terry Ombre Blackstar but without the price tag (£17) - it will be interesting to see if they last as long.

They also have a tanning range called Kissed by Mii, which includes ingredients such as coral seaweed, green algae and coastal flowers. These help to replenish your skins natural minerals, helping to develop a beautiful tan. I was most intrigued by the seriously smoothing exfoliating wipes (£4.95) which help to create a smooth base for your tan. Prices are reasonable, with most products being below £20. Mii is available in selected spas, salons and online at Gerrard International. To see your closest stockist, click here.

Let me know if you like this kind of post as I decided to try something a little different!

My first Jo Malone Experience; Bath Soap, Shower Oil and Body Creme

19 Apr 2016

For a long time now I have been been lusting over Jo Malone, however I am constantly overwhelmed by the many different fragrances, that I can never decide which to buy. So when I was bought this gift set I was delighted to be able to try a range of their products and scents.

Before I even opened the box, I was hit by the most beautiful warming scent - the Blackberry & Bay Bath Soap. This is most definitely my favourite scent of the three - it's just so pleasing. I have never used a bath soap before so I have nothing to compare this to, however I have enjoyed using it. It lathers really well, and my skin feels nice and soft afterwards due to the Shea butter included.

The Lime Basil & Mandarin Shower Oil is my least favourite scent of the three, nonetheless it works really well as a shower oil. You do not need to use much and once mixed with water, the oil turns into a creamy consistency that is very refreshing and awakening. It is packed full of luxurious ingredients such as sunflower seeds, jojoba oil and coconut oil, that locks in moisture leaving your skin feeling silky smooth.

Lastly, the Orange Blossom Body Creme is a very close second to the blackberry and bay scent. It is such an uplifting scent that will make you happy on the most miserable day. It reminds me of walking through a summer garden filled with beautiful flowers. The creme itself is filled with conditioning oils jojoba seed, cocoa seed and sweet almond which hydrate, nourish and protect the skin and it leaves you smelling beautiful for many many hours.

The Eye of Horus Maat Dark Temptress Eye Shadow Palette

17 Apr 2016

I am not one for matt eyeshadows, generally I go for a shimmery eye however the Maat Dark Temptress Eye Shadow Palette* has changed my habits. Eye of Horus are an Australian brand that is based on Ancient Egyptian formula's and natural ingredients. They are cruelty free, paraben free and most of their products are vegan friendly (including this palette).

This is a staple palette that can take you from day to night, from a natural look to full on smokey eye. The first shade is Armarna Light, a beautiful pearly shimmer. This is a great highlighting shade that can also be used on the face to bring a gorgeous glow. Next is Ankh Odyssey, the perfect taupe shade. This is a great base shadow and transitional colour. Lastly is Dark Dynasty, a rich coffee hue which finishes that smokey look.

All three shades are velvety soft and therefore blend effortlessly. They really are a pleasure to use. They are highly pigmented, long wearing and crease proof, therefore great for full day wear. They can be used wet for an intense finish or dry for a subtle day effect. This means you can create many different looks from just these 3 eyeshadows, and as the packaging is so compact it is perfect for travelling.

The Maat Dark Temptress Eye Shadow Palette is available to buy now for £22.50 from Beauty Bay.

Currently Reading | Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman

14 Apr 2016

It has been a while since I wrote a 'currently reading' post and in that time I have read a fair few books. One of my New Years resolutions was to read more, with an aim of reading 18 books this year (averaging one and a half a month). So far it's not going so well. It took me 2 months to read my first book of the year, it was really hard to get into it. This is book number 3 of 18 - Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman.
Callum is a Nought- an inferior white citizen in a society controlled by the black Crosses. Sephy is a Cross- and the daughter of one of the most powerful, ruthless men in the country.

In their hostile, violent world, noughts and crosses simply don’t mix. But when Sephy and Callum’s childhood friendship grows into passionate love, they’re determined to find a way to be together.

And then the bomb explodes…..
Although a young adult novel, Noughts and Crosses is a book that can be enjoyed by any age. As you may be able to tell, racism is a main feature in this book, with blacks being the superior race and whites being inferior. The chapters alternate between the two main characters; Sephy and Callum, giving you two different perspectives. It is a book that will make you think about life and the prejudice that occurs; why are plasters only produced in a white skin like colour?

I am still waiting for the bomb to explode, and when it does I am not sure what to expect. However, I am only around 150 pages in and cannot put it down. Definitely worth a read if you enjoy dystopian settings.

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

For as long as I can remember I have suffered from dehydrated skin under the eyes. This has been confirmed multiple times at events where I have had my skin analysed under a UV light, and from the fact that my under eye concealer doesn't last very long at all. There was no eye cream in my collection that was good enough to combat the dehydration and so I purchased the well known and loved Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. This is a cult classic in the beauty world, so I don't know why it has taken me so long to try - a bit like The White Company Candle.

This creamy eye treatment contains Avocado Oil which helps to restore the natural moisture of the skin, Beta-Carotene, a naturally derived antioxidant and Shea Butter for its hydrating properties. It is a very thick, rich cream and you therefore only need to apply a small amount. Once if hits your skin it turns into more of an oil like consistency making it easy to absorb. I mostly tend to use this at night as it is so rich, I then use another eye cream in the morning to help combat my dark circles.

Overall I am a big fan of this eye cream. I have definitely seen a difference in my skin, it feels much more hydrated, and my concealer is lasting much longer.  The true test will be when I next have my skin analysed. I shall keep you updated!

Available in 14ml (£20) or 28ml (£33.50) from Kiehl's.

A favourite | MONUSpa Enriched Body Cream

10 Apr 2016

MONU are a brand that I discovered through Glossy Box many years ago, and ever since they have not let me down. All of their products are made from locally sourced natural ingredients, they do not use synthetic perfumes or colours nor do they test on animals. They are a brand that I happily support and believe in.

The MONUSpa Enriched Body Cream* in my opinion, is the cream of the crop.  After first use my skin felt ultra nourished and hydrated, due to its luxurious ingredients Marine Collagen, Cocoa Butter and vitamins A, E and B5. Marine Collagen is an ingredient derived from fish scales that is very popular in anti ageing products, particularly in Japan that helps to tone and firm skin. It has a rich indulgent consistency that is surprisingly easy to rub in and its mixture of orange, lemon, geranium and rose produce a beautiful citrus scent that leaves you feeling refreshed and uplifted.

Although the packaging is not anything special, it is 100% recyclable and it shows that their focus really is on the product itself, rather than fancy packaging. It isn't particularly cheap at £24 however it is filled to the rim with product which will keep you going for a long time.

The MONUSpa Enriched Body Cream is available from both MONU and at £24 for 200ml.

Have you tried MONU before?
